Maryan Movie Review

maryan-review Review by : TC Content Team Starring : Dhanush, Parvathi Menon Direction : Bharat Bala Music : A. R. Rahman Production : Aascar Films Maryan is all about Dhanush, who plays the title role in it. Maryan’s first love is the seas as he is a fisherman but on the insistence of his ladylove, Parvathy, he goes to work in Sudan on a two-year contract. On his return, he is captured by the Sudanese terrorists and how he comes out of their clutches forms the rest of the story. The first half of the film is only the seas and love while in the second half it is full of desert sands. In the first half, Dhanush appears as the Kadal Rasa and in the second half he looks like a dried fish! However, he has lived both the characters and kudos to him for his wonderful performance. Parvathy has done her best as well. The rest of the stars also deserve applause; however, the lead pair should be mentioned specifically as they have done a good job throughout the film. Despite the fact that there are too many things included in the film to capture our attention such as the love in the fishing hamlet and the desert in Sudan, it is Dhanush and Parvathy’s love that is appealing throughout the film. Kadal Rasa and Nenje songs are simply superb but the rest of the songs are like poetic verses. AR Rahman’s background music is excellent. Other technical issues such as cinematography and editing have been handled very well. Some of the scenes that the audiences would love are: the scene in which Dhanush thrashes a prospective groom for Parvathy, when the terrorists ask him to contact his employers for negotiations and Dhanush calls up Parvathy in India and the dialogue, “thambi ennna ippave konnudu illa romba varuthapaduva.” The negatives in Maryan are that while the first half is sluggish and lengthy, the second half is very sluggish and very lengthy! Movie buffs with a lot of expectations may be slightly disappointed as the film is very slow. However, the director hasn’t included a lot of masala which makes it a worthy fare.
